Xenia business grows through military contracts - April 1, 2007
XENIA - Michael Collinsworth shows off his new 4,000-watt Mitsubishi laser as if it were a toy. The
laser itself slices through a sheet of aluminum three-eighths of an inch thick as if the metal were a toy.
Sparks fly and a white-yellow glow throws shadows in a corner of the metalworking shop. But the laser
is no toy. It's serious business at Collinsworth's company, Custom Manufacturing Solutions Inc.

Economic impact of war hits home - March 2, 2007
The economic impact of the war in Iraq has trickled down to Custom
Manufacturing Solutions Inc., a Xenia manufacturer.
High demand for military vehicles during the war has helped the
company, which supplies parts such as bearing rings for the turrets of
Humvees, triple its revenue and employees since 2003. Now CMS is
expanding into a new 27,000-square-foot building just down the
street from its 50,000-square-foot facility.

Tooling work going to smaller shops - November 26, 2006
XENIA - On the shop floor of the Custom Manufacturing Solutions Co., Jim Bishop's eyes light up
at the sight of a new three-axis milling machine. CMS makes metal parts, but the control panel of this
device looks like something you would expect to find in a nuclear power plant - a big computer screen
with a touch pad and flashing lights.

Manufacturers target new workforce - October 1, 2006
Mike Collinsworth constantly is interviewing for new employees at his
company, Custom Manufacturing Solutions.
Problem is, few candidates have the necessary skills, particularly young
people, needed to replace retiring workers, he said.
These days, many consider manufacturing to be unappealing, dirty
and unstable. Haunted by headlines announcing plant closures, layoffs
and outsourcing, few people would imagine healthy manufacturing
companies actually looking to hire.

Slowing of care costs eases the pain just a bit - September 28, 2006
It's hard to find employers celebrating the news that annual increases in health insurance premiums
appear to be slowing down. Even among those who believe it.
Mike Collinsworth, president of Custom Manufacturing Solutions in Xenia, said the findings of the
annual survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation reflect almost exactly the 7 percent increase his
company had to absorb this year.
